Dr. Joycelyn C. Jumawan—a researcher and instructor from the Caraga State University—placed second in the inter-regional oral research paper presentation, professional category at the 11th Philippine National Health Research System Week (PNHRS) held last August 24-25, 2017 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

A total of six research entries from all over the country competed for the category. Funded by the Caraga Health Research and Development Consortium (CHRDC), Jumawan presented her  study on “A Gastropod Survey and Geographical Distribution of Snail Vectors of Schistosomiasis in Lake Mainit, Philippines”,  besting four other finalists. She received a cash prize of 15,000 pesos and a certificate during the awarding ceremony.

Meanwhile, the study of Dr. Norbel A. Tabo of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas—the “Prevalence of Leptospira in Abattoir Workers, Slaughtered Animals and Abattoir Environment in Cavite, Philippines”—bagged the first place.

The Philippine National Health Research System Week is celebrated annually on the second week of August by virtue of the Presidential Proclamation No. 1309.
